Stripping Fiber Optics
It is true that fiber optics is the best option as a connectivity
medium. Because of higher bandwidth, sending huge amount of data has
been made possible. Just when you think that fiber optics works best
in all possible conditions, it has its own weaknesses too, one of
which is when the cables extend too much distance, the light waves
traveling along the pathway is affected. In this case there is a
need to amplify the light that carries the message. Making all this
possible is to adding a dopant (erbium is used a doping agent in
fiber optics) to amplify the light, making it possible to traverse
until at the receiving end of the line.
The need to maximize the potential of fiber optics has yielded the
need to make all possible means in improving its performance in data
transmission. One of the ways that fiber optics manufactures have
employed over the years is stripping fiber optics. This method is
done to enhance the data transmission capability of the technology.
There are two kinds of stripping fiber optics, the window stripping
and the conventional stripping.
Window stripping is the method of scraping off the acrylate layer
that covers the fiber optics. The aim of stripping fiber optics is
to make it possible for the fiber to be exposed thus, making it
easier for an alternative covering to be put in lieu of the stripped
acrylate. The photo mask that is used to wrap the exposed portion of
the fiber optics will serve as a protective agent of the fiber
optics from damage. Stripping fiber optics is the initial procedure
in boosting the power requirement of fiber optics when fiber outages
occur.
Conventional stripping, which is commonly known as end stripping is
done by taking off the coating of the fiber optic at the end of the
fiber optic line or cable. This method is also done on the coaxial
metal cable made of copper. Moreover the method has also limited
uses especially in tight-buffered fiber optic cables.
Stripping fiber optics needs special training and likewise special
tools in doing the job. Tecra Tools has introduced a safer and
better way in stripping off fiber optics cable through the use of
its Emergency Fiber Restoration Kit. The toll kit is complete with
the entire gadget needed in performing the task. The hassle-free job
of stripping, splicing and restoring the fiber can be done in an
instant with the help of these tools.
The need for a better performing fiber optics has put forth its
customization, thus the concern to automate the process of stripping
fiber optics cables was suggested as the only way to respond to this
need.
