What Does a Professional Life Coach Do?
You've probably seen advertisements for professional life coaching
services, which probably leads you to wonder what a professional
life coach does. It's a very good question especially since the
concept of a life coach is rather new, but don't let that scare you
off. Having a personal life coach can be absolutely wonderful, as
long as you understand what they do and how they do it.
A professional life coach, also referred to as a personal life
coach, is a lot like a psychologist in that they offer a form of
therapy. Professional life coaches don't have psychology degrees,
however, and they aren't trained to diagnose mental illness. What a
professional life coach is trained to do, however, is to help a
person understand and accept where he or she is in life and, if
there is a problem, find a way to help move past that. A
professional life coach knows a multitude of life coach techniques
designed to help a person learn how to succeed in life. Life
coaching is not quite like psychological therapy, as the focus is
different. Psychological therapy focuses on how you got to where you
are. Life coaching, on the other hand, simply focuses on where you
are. It doesn't pay attention to how you got there, believing that
it's more important to know how to go forward than to focus on the
past.
That, in a nutshell, is what a professional life coach does. If
you'd like to understand how your life got to the point where it is
now, then you may want to consider therapy. Therapy would also be
useful if you're trying to find out if you have some form of mental
disorder. If, however, you just want to get past that and find a way
to succeed in life, then you should probably consider getting a
professional life coach. A life coach will be much more useful in
getting to the point where you can move on in life, and be done with
your current situation.
