Choosing the Right Network Marketing Opportunity
Most everyone has been pulled aside by a friend who has become the
newest network marketer on the block, eager to have you sit down and
listen to a CD or watch a DVD that will tell you all about the great
new network marketing opportunity business they have just started.
Unfortunately, too many inexperienced networkers, and too many
experienced but unscrupulous networkers, have overstated promises of
overnight wealth in MLM. These overblown promises have given MLM
companies, also known as network marketing companies, a bad
reputation and often have people running from MLM presentations
screaming "Scam!"
And, this is unfortunate, because behind the facade that some people
try to paint of easy money, the fact is that multi-level marketing
can be a viable vehicle for people to inexpensively start a home
based business with the potential to grow into a significant
residual income that can deliver lifestyle dreams.
It is important to remember that a network marketing opportunity can
be a platform for a legitimate business, if it is treated that way.
People who jump into MLM companies and dabble around in it like a
hobby, or who try to make it into a get rich opportunity, will soon
find disappointment. But, for those individuals who commit to
working hard and also have the patience required, they can be
rewarded with a stable and growing business.
In screening the many network marketing business opportunity options
in the market, the first test should always be to check that the
company is not a pyramid scheme, but a legitimate business. An
illegal pyramid scheme will either have no product at all, making it
a pure money game, or it will feature a product of little value that
is significantly overpriced, as a ruse to try to make it look
legitimate.
Once you are satisfied that you are not dealing with a pyramid,
check more closely into the product offerings and ask yourself if it
is something you would buy, and if you feel it is at a fair price.
Most MLM companies offer unique products that are typically of
higher quality than what you find in stores, but you should still be
getting value for your money. A good way to check yourself is to
consider how you would feel about selling that product to your
grandmother at the retail price. If you would be embarrassed to
present it to her, your heart won't be in the business and it is
probably not the right business for you.
Also, take a careful look at how much it costs for the privilege of
becoming a distributor with the company. While they may try to sell
you on the MLM training you will receive, or big commission you get
when you get a new distributor signed up, keep in mind that the
higher the cost to get started, the smaller your market of people
you will be able to recruit into your downline.
Take some time to understand the commission structure. Many MLM
companies design their compensation plans to look lucrative on the
surface, but on closer inspection the qualifications you must meet
often leaves your commission money on the table, which goes back
into the company coffers. This is a dirty little secret of MLM and a
way that many companies essentially cheat their distributors of
their earnings.
While there are many things to consider when evaluating a network
marketing opportunity, if you take your time and do your research
you should be able to find a work from home business with an MLM
that is a golden nugget, and not be tricked by fool's gold.
